Gibberd were appointed by Arab Investments Ltd to design and gain planning permission for the refurbishment to the façade and change of use to the entrance for 11 Berkeley Street, a multi-tenanted building in the heart of Mayfair and a 2 minute walk from Green Park Station.
A simple design allowed Gibberd to bring it in line within its immediate architectural surroundings and the 21st Century. The large part of the façade was a simple replacement of the existing silver anodised framework for a dark bronze anodised finish and the blue tinted vision glass for clear vision glass with an Opal/acid etched spandrel panels. This design allowed for a more layered affect breaking up the façade using the contrast between the existing York stone and dark bronze framing system.
The change of use for the lower ground floor meant that Gibberd could update and adapt the reception to include space for a restaurant, maximising the space for the client. Splitting the lower ground floor in two meant that Gibberd had to incorporate a break in the façade, which was managed using a look-a-like vision panel to hide the party wall junction on the street level elevation.
Gibberd have more recently been appointed to obtain planning permission for the alteration to the rear envelope to create a 2nd floor terrace.
