Capgemini is one of the world’s largest consulting, technology and outsourcing companies, Gibberd Architect’s were commissioned for a multi million pound upgrade of their Head office at 40 Holborn, London.
Gibberd were also commissioned for a £6.5million Interior refurbishment within two office buildings in Vauxhall W1, to provide modern office facilities for Cap Gemini UK.
The larger building will provide 5,000 sq m of open plan and flexible working spaces over four floors for circa 850 staff. Facilities will include new entrance, large reception and restaurant area, hot desking areas, an executive suite, meeting rooms, new WC’s, lift core and plant.
A similar refurbishment of a smaller building on the site will provide an additional 1000 sq m of office accommodation for circa 250 staff.
Gibberd were approached to carry out a feasibility study which determined the design intent and economic viability of the project. The study produced was developed with the Client to form a basis for the project. The Feasibility Study also provided an indication of the complexities of the project, which included national security and logistical issues. This led to the conclusion that the project should be a phased development.
An option analysis was undertaken at the start of the project to determine the key areas. A further analysis then took place at each phase to decide which design options could be taken forward depending on the timescale and budget available at that point in the schedule. This continued development throughout the project gave the client a level of flexibility which would not normally be available.
Part of works include a specialist fit-out for the Metropolitan Police, who have their own specialist in-house designers, regular Design Reviews were undertaken with them to ensure our designs complied with specialist security requirements.
The pre-contact services consisted of a number of options studies which were reviewed with the client to find a preferred option this was then developed in terms of concept design.
CapGemini was a refurbishment of an occupied 1970’s office building. The client wanted to achieve a good working environment for the occupants within the perimeters of a tight programme and budget, this meant decanting and moving the current occupants while carrying out the phased construction work around them.
The project was carried out with a phased sectional completion programme which resulted in there being constant feedback from the client and contractor. The client has been very impressed with the work produced by Gibberd and has become a repeat client following this project.
