Following several successful projects for the client, Gibberd were appointed to design and gain planning permission for the adaptation of a roof top plantroom, repair to the existing façade and addition of a penthouse with a 360 degree view in one of London’s most desirable locations, just a 15 minute walk from Hyde Park.
The design required an alteration to an existing apartment, creating access to the new upper floor of the penthouse above. This required Gibberd to re-design the layout of the existing apartment with the design of the additional new floor in mind.
The main obstacle for the project was obtaining planning permission in a location where roof top extensions are commonly refused. Gibberd used the spatial arrangements of existing high rise buildings within the local area to successfully argue that it would be more in keeping for an additional floor with a reduced floor plan. The Planning permission was granted in December 2013.
The design is currently being detailed to ensure that the construction will not adversely affect the other apartments in the building.
