Charing Cross Hospital Mental Health Unit provides 88 beds for the adult acute mental health needs of the local area -Hammersmith and Fulham - and offers an alternative to the secluded style mental healthcare design in favour of an urban environment.
The main Mental Health Unit is constructed over three levels. Accommodation comprises three 18 bed acute wards, one 22 bed acute ward, one 16 bed ICU Ward, EPS, ECT and an integral day hospital with occupational therapy areas. The unit also provides external landscaped and recreational areas and a central restaurant and café.
A day hospital is placed at the centre of the residential facilities where all patients can congregate, providing breakdown between outpatient and residential patient distinction. A gymnasium, offices and therapy areas are also offered. The new build scheme includes outdoor landscaped areas as part of the building framework making use of the external space available.
