Gibberd has been appointed as executive architects to deliver Jigsaw, a joint development venture between FABRICA by A2Dominion and Rydon as part of the extensive regeneration of the Green Man Lane estate in West Ealing. The Green Man Lane Estate has been undergoing major transformation since 2011 following Ealing’s programme to invest and improve the housing stock of the borough.
This current phase sees the integration of houses, flats and maisonettes across three main cores; one of which will complete the existing courtyard and first level private garden from phase 1. Three and four bedroom, three-storey timber-frame houses will balance Tewksbury Road to the west. The remaining concrete cores vary in height from four levels up to eight along Singapore Road, and comprise of one, two and three bedroom units.
A total of 187 units will provide accessible, affordable and private homes for existing and new residents. The palette of brickwork, metal and render is carefully detailed to ensure a robust finish is achieved whilst instilling a contemporary aesthetic to reveals, entrances and edges. Each unit, with their own private balcony or external space, will overlook residential avenues or landscaped courtyard spaces while communal gardens will employ secure, gated access for residents. The scheme has been designed to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and responds to the recommendations of Habinteg, London Housing Design Guide and Secured by Design New Homes 2014.
Furthering our practices’ expertise in residential delivery, Gibberd are completing the project through BIM in collaboration with the design team; the ability to review and assess design proposals has allowed for informed decisions and effective control of end-results.
