During the summer of 2014, the reception at South Essex College’s main campus in Southend underwent a significant facelift. Gibberd were enlisted to provide architectural and interior design services which led to a more open and engaging front of house.
The practice used their creative skills and experience to develop an environment that was welcoming and legible to visitors, whilst also being an efficient and readily managed space for the College and its regular users. Works at the Luker Road Campus included a new reception point and an open plan student services drop in.
Gibberd have also assisted the college with numerous internal refurbishment exercises. In 2013, a re-design of the existing Science department was carried out. Gibberd managed to provide the College with four laboratory spaces with a common preparatory room in place of the three they previously used. Efficient space planning enabled South Essex College to provide the necessary course to accommodate the high enrolment demand.
