In 2014, Gibberd were selected by Basildon Council to develop design proposals for a new two storey GP surgery of around 870m² in the town centre of Wickford, Essex. The project has recieved full planning permission and is currently being tendered.
The new surgery building will provide improved facilities for The London Road Surgery. The building layout has been designed to provide high quality facilities and designed to meet the agreed NHS Department of Health Technical Standards. The main reception is positioned close to the main entrance to assist with visitor way finding. the building plan layout has been designed with a clear seperation between patient and staff areas. The building is split across two floors with the consultant, treatment and ancillary staff rooms arranged around the perimeter and waiting areas at the centre. Waiting is split across two floors and vertical circulation is provided at each end of the building, including a lift for disabled access. The arrangement of rooms to the perimeter makes good use of day lighting, with central areas being top lit with roof lights and a void between ground and first floor waiting areas to link the spaces and provide good levels of natural daylighting.
