Maple Ward sees the completion of a further in patient facility at the Longely Centre for Sheffield Health Partnership Univesity NHS Foundation Trust. Gibberd Architects worked closely wit hthe Trust to develope the pbrief to deliver this refurbishment project to provide 17 ensuite in patient bedrooms, a number of which hav ebeen designed specifically for Neodiverse, to which the desing, selection of matierlas, imagery and the control of light, together with enhanced acoustic treatements.
the schem sought to deliver improved informal surveillance through carefully considered intervensions to the internal plan to open up insternal spaces and provide significantly imrpved line of site throughout the ward within the confines of the eixsting floor plate area.
The scheme integrates the exisitng courtyard , works to the courtyard created a level multi use space which will encanse ativities throughout the year and promote wellbeing through nature. Planting was carefully selected to provide a sensory planting scheme.
The project team worked closely with the Arts for Health Leads to develop an integrated scheme which blends harmoniously wit hthe art work for the space. The Artwrok for the scheme was co- produced with Service user input in collaboration with a number of local artists, including Zoe Genders, Sam Groom, Tomekah Georges and Grace Lee. The scheme also collaborated with Sheffield Landscape artist Jill Ray.
The scheme is shortlisted for Art Installation of the Year at Design in Mental Health Awards 2026.
